Bishop Smith is a member (and president since 2004) of the Christian Conference of Connecticut, an organization that brings together the heads of Christian judictories in Connecticut for mutual support and common advocacy. The Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut has a relationship with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich. There is also a formal covenant relationship among the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod in America (ELCA). Building on the formal agreement between the Episcopal Church USA and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ("Called to Common Mission"), churches and people in the Diocese of Connecticut and the ELCA, New England Synod, work together. In the northwest corner of the state, Christ Church, Canaan, All Saints', Cornwall, and Trinity, Milton have a close relationship with St. Peter's ELCA, Cornwall. The pastor of St. Peter's and the vicar of Christ Church wrote a book together about Called To Common Mission.) Currently the Diocese has one Lutheran pastor serving as as interim rector, in Newington. Christ Church, Greenwich has long had a close relationship with its neighbor, Temple Shalom. It includes pulpit exchanges and some shared adult study groups. Thanksgiving is a time for many Episcopal Churches to hold ecumenical or interfaith services with other faith groups in their communities. The youth groups of some parishes in the Diocese are ecumenical; others take part in ecumenical and/or interfaith activities on occasion.
