Diocesan Companions in Mission Committee Resources:

February 26, 2008: Survey online about your parish's mission partnerships (or desire for a partnership). Click Here to take survey (Goes to SurveyMonkey.com)

The Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut is currently developing new formal diocesan partnerships. Since 1990, it had been partnered with the Dioceses of Cuba, the Dominical Republic, Haiti, and Puerto Rico as those churches sought to establish themselves as a separate Province of the Caribbean. In 2003, Puerto Rico submitted a resolution to the General Convention asking to be returned to the Episcopal Church USA; this was accepted. (Both Cuba and Puerto Rico had been part of the Episcopal Church USA years earlier; the Dominican Republic and Haiti are currently part of ECUSA.) Cuba considered petitioning to rejoin ECUSA, but decided against it at the end.

During this time of formal diocesan partnership, close ties were made, and some churches established parish-to-parish partnerships. These won't end, but the formal relationship between the Diocese and the emerging province has ended.

Current diocesan partnerships with Scotland and Colombia exist, and several trips have been made by Connecticut Episcopalians to Colombia.

Parishes have also developed partnerships with other churches, schools, and hospitals, often forming personal relationships to clergy, bishops, and lay people. Some include personal visits and exchanges; others are limited to material and financial contributions; some are ongoing; others focus around one or two major occasions during the year. Some are within the Diocese, some beyond the Diocese but within ECUSA. Many are overseas.

The Companion Relationship Committee is working to facilitate these partnerships, and advise the bishops on the diocesan partnership.

Below is a list prepared in January, 2004 that gives an overview of currently known parish partnerships. Contact the parish directly for more information. (UPDATE IN PROGRESS 2008)
